James Marquardt

James Marquardt, 90, of Ashwaubenon, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. He was born on June 23, 1924 to Alfred and Frances (Steiner) Marquardt. He graduated from Catholic Central High School in 1942. James served in the United States Army Corps in the South Pacific during WWII. On September 9, 1949, he married Margaret (Peggy) Mackin. She preceded him in death on April 23, 2011. They were blessed with two children, Mary Francis, born in 1950 and Kathleen Marie, born in 1953. James was employed in sales at Morley Murphy. For many years, he was an active member of Nativity of our Lord Catholic Church where he and his wife served on the original Board. James enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and 'bargain' grocery shopping. He loved spending time with his grand-children taking them to the zoo, swinging in the back yard, going to Chucky Cheese and teaching them to fish. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the children in the neighborhood, where he was affectionately known as the "neighbor guy". James is survived by his daughter, Kathleen "Kitty" Marquardt, Milwaukee; grandchildren, Kelly (Andy) Kiefert, Nicholas and Matt Keegan; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Emerson "Emmy" and Madilyn "Madi" Kiefert; sisters, Ruth Tilkens and Rita Van Iten; brother-in-law, Henry King; son-in-law, John Keegan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Francis Keegan; his sisters, Eva King, Jeanne Rocque and June Marquardt; and his brothers, Rev. Donald, Richard and Norbert Marquardt. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 20, 2015 from 10:00 am until the funeral mass at 12:00 noon at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church 2270 S. Oneida Street with the Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Interment will be at Allouez Catholic Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in James' name. Thank you to the staffs at Marla Vista Gardens, St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice where he spent his final days. A very special thank you to Kathy, Stephanie and Stacey Brock, who cared for him during his later years, Dr. David Spika for his compassionate care for many years and his special friends and neighbors, David and Mary DeMelle, whose watchful eyes and day-to-day help made it possible for him to stay in his home.
