Mr. Harold L. Bauer, 87, of the Klein Center, died at 3:45 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 2015, at the Klein Center of Great River Medical Center. Born October 13, 1927 in Burlington, he was the son of Ludwig J. and Alvena B. (Miller) Bauer. On April 22, 1950 he married Frances "Fran" Mae Morrow in Burlington. She preceded him in death on December 17, 2002. Mr. Bauer was a Burlington High School graduate. He was an Army veteran stationed in Japan between wars. Mr. Bauer was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 35 years. He was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ, Eagles Aerie #150, V.F.W. and American Legion. He enjoyed pool, fishing, bowling, boating and farming in his younger years. Survivors include four sons, Rick L. (Lisa) Bauer and Larry R. (Meribeth) Bauer both of Burlington, Terry J. Bauer of Houston, Texas and Johnny L. Bauer of Richmond, Texas; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Melva Mae Eernisse of Reseda, California; one brother, Gary Bauer of rural Burlington and nieces and nephews. noon until 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 20th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. The funeral service for Mr. Bauer will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 21st, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. David Plooster officiating. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. Interment will be in South Walker Cemetery, rural Burlington. Memorials have been established for the Mississippi Valley Veterans Memorial and Eagles Charity.
