Carolyn Kay Sloan

Carolyn Kay Sloan, age 67, of rural Mediapolis and formerly of Burlington, IA, passed away at 5:55 p.m. on Friday, November 27, 2009 at Great River Medical Center Hospice House. She was born at Burlington Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Iowa on Thursday, November 5, 1942 to Albert J. and Della E. (Johnson) Rheinschmidt. On May 26, 1963 she married Robert Henry Sloan Jr. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in West Burlington, Iowa. Mrs. Sloan graduated from Burlington High School in 1960 and worked as a receptionist at the Des Moines County Social Welfare Office until 1965m when she became a homemaker and raised four children. Later she worked as a secretary in several lawyers' offices, and in data processing at True Value Hardware. Carolyn enjoyed her family, particularly her five grandchildren, reading, gardening, taking photographs, watching NASCAR, and using her computer. In accordance with Carolyn's wishes, cremation has been accorded. Friends may call from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 30th at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation. Graveside memorial service for the family will be held on Tuesday, December 1st at 1:00 p.m. in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Tyrone Henderson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Great River Hospice House.
