John H. May

John Harold May passed away peacefully on July 17th, surrounded by his family in his home in Fairmont, MN. He was proudly welcomed into the world on January 29, 1949, by his parents Bill and Dee (Schaper) May. He was raised on his family's farm outside of Spirit Lake, IA, and graduated from Spirit Lake High School. After spending all of his life in the Spirit Lake area, he and his wife moved to Fairmont in 2014, to be closer to their children and grandchildren, the light of his life! John worked as a truck driver for most of his life with Yellow Freight and Holiday Express, enabling him to share his good nature and practical jokes coast to coast. Even from a young age, he was said to be "a loving little boy, always a hugger." He maintained that image throughout his 66 years, along with a great sense of humor, a fun loving spirit and a huge heart! He loved woodworking and making things in his shop for his family and grandchildren, while enjoying time with his friends. , David Gray, wife, Lynette, and grandchildren, Michaela and Hunter; son, Jim Gray, wife, Mary Ann, and grandchildren, Elijah and Ezra; his sister, Barbara May; and brother, Kenneth May, wife, Bonnie and children, William and Lindzee. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Ruby and Otto Schaper and John and Gertrude May; and son, Nathan. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Good News Community Church in Okoboji. Visitation will be held Monday, July 20, 2015, from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in John's name.
