Earl Horn

Earl Horn, 91, of New London died Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his home in New London. He was born June 28, 1924 in Yarmouth, the son of James Everett and Orva Featherby Horn. On July 3, 1948 he married Gloria Alice Kearns in Burlington. She died April 12, 2006. He was a graduate of Yarmouth High School. He retired from J. I. Case in Burlington, was a retired farmer, had his own welding and woodworking shop, drove a school bus for the New London Schools, and was maintenance manager for Ramey Retirement Apartments in New London and Ventura Village in Danville. Mr. Horn served in the Army during World War II as a tank mechanic in Panama and Japan. He was a fundraising member of the committee that created the Veteran's Memorial in New London. He enjoyed playing pitch, making wood creations, loved fishing, and family reunions where he could sit back on his lawn chair reflecting on everything he had created. d in death by his parents, wife, two sons Chuck and Don, two daughters Pam and Phyllis, three brothers Dale, Lyle, and Dwight, and one sister Helen Bauman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 17, 2015 at Elliott Chapel, New London. Pastor Rod Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, rural Mt. Union, with military rites by the Henry County Honor Guard. Visitation will begin after noon Sunday, August 16 with the family greeting friends from 3:00 to 5:00 PM. A memorial has been established to English River Outfitters which provides fishing and hunting trips for veterans and their families.
