Gregory Koenig
Gregory Lee Koenig, the son of Gerald Walter Koenig and Janet Margaret (O'Hearn) Koenig, was born August 14, 1952 in Spencer, Iowa. Greg spent his early elementary years in Gillette Grove, Iowa. After moving briefly to Pomona, California and Sioux Rapids, Iowa, he attended Spencer schools from fourth grade on and graduated in 1970. In Spencer, Greg played football and was the manager for several teams. After graduating, Greg attended the University of Iowa, proudly cheering on the football team as Herky the Hawk. Greg graduated from Iowa State University with a teaching degree and taught at South Clay High School in Gillette Grove, Iowa and in Clarksville, Iowa. Greg worked for the Daily Reporter as a sports reporter and photographer for a short time and worked for years for Koenig Portable Toilets. Greg enjoyed reading the newspaper and discussing politics and sports and keeping sports statistics. Greg was an avid sports fan with wrestling being his favorite. Greg also took pride in restoring his homes in Dickens, Clarksville and Gillette Grove, Iowa, Preceding him in death were his grandparents, William Paul and Ingery Marie (Jensen) Koenig and Omer and Marguerite (Parks) O'Hearn, his father Gerald Walter Koenig, sister Nancee, infant sister Susan and infant nephew Gerald Edward "Eddie" Koenig. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Janet Koenig, his sisters, Mary (Randy) Goyette of Lincoln, NE, Ann (Danny) Dodge of Spencer, IA, Lisa (Randy) Hansen of Spencer, IA, Martha (Gavin) Goodenow of Arvada, CO, Sara (Doug) Harris of Phoenix, AZ, Tina (Paul) Miller of Manteca, CA and his brother Ed (Brenda) Koenig of Spencer, IA. In addition, Greg was a father and grandfather figure to many, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews that he leaves behind. Graveside services for 63 year old Gregory Koeing of Spencer will be 4:00 PM Saturday September 19, 2015 at the Northlawn Cemetery in Spencer, with a time of fellowship to follow.
