Dale Harper, 96, of Glenwood, passed away November 20, 2015 at the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, IA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood with Pastor Darrell Hopp, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 1:00 p.m. Memorials - Harvey T. Rimel Legion Post 141 or Glenwood Lions Club Dale Lawrence Harper, the oldest of ten children of Everett Washington and Lessie Beatrice (Hall) Harper, was born on May 25, 1919 on a farm near Wisner, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm near Wayne, Nebraska and graduated from Wayne High School in 1937. He attended Wayne State College and taught at a country school. Dale went back to Wayne State and changed his career course to business administration. Dale and Ellen Mary Ord, of Silver City, Iowa, were united in marriage on March 8, 1942. He enlisted in the Army during WW II and served his country stateside and then overseas in Italy. Eugene. They started what became known as Glenwood Tractor Service Inc., the area Allis-Chalmers dealership, from 1946 to 1992. Dale strived to be active in the community. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, serving in all positions; Board of Deacons, Sunday School Superintendent, and Board of Trustees and was a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Glen Haven, and served as Mayor of Glenwood for 16 years. Dale passed away on November 20, 2015 at the Tabor Manor Care Center in Tabor, Iowa, at the age of 96 years, 5 months, and 26 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife Ellen; brothers, Cecil and Donald; and sisters, Margaret, Irene, Deloris, Mildred, and Shirley. Dale is survived by his two sons, Ron Harper of Glenwood, and Rick Harper of Omaha, NE; six grandchildren, Jason, Christina, Rachel, Jenni, Sara, and Katelin; sisters, Ruby Laurent of Las Vegas, NV, and Helen Rohde of Omaha; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives; and a host of friends.
