Funeral Services for Mary Ann Rouse, 83, of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday at the the funeral home. Mary Ann Rouse, daughter of Elmer and Inga (Hansen) Simington was born December 4, 1932 on the family farm near Ruthven. She was the seventh of ten children. Mary Ann attended school in Ruthven, and she was a graduate of Ruthven High School. On August 2, 1953, Mary Ann was united in marriage to Earl Freeman Rouse in Ruthven. They began their life together four miles west and two miles south of Mallard before moving across the section to the Rouse Homestead where they raised their seven children. Mary Ann helped Earl farm, and she raised her family. She also worked for a number of years at SNC Mfg. in Emmetsburg where she made many good friends. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, crocheting, playing cards and fishing. She loved her big family gatherings, and more than anything, she treasured watching her grandchildren grow. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ray & Linda Rouse of Emmetsburg, Janet and Fred Zwiefel of Richmond, MN, Ron Rouse of Mapleton, MN, Roger and Marilyn Rouse of Algona, IA, Rick and Deb Rouse of Emmetsburg, IA, Jeanne and John Loghry of Des Moines, IA and Julie and Matt Meredith of Walnut Creek, CA; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Donna Bjorkland. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl; four sisters: Eulalia Mills, Irene Amendt, June Phillips, and Betty Simington; four brothers: Paul, Clyde, John and Jerry Simington.
