Mr. Raymond Russell Rutter, 83, of Fort Madison died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Born July 31, 1932 in Joliet, Illinois, he was the son of George and Anne (Wakenshaw) Rutter. On January 13, 1956 he married GayLea Wells in Joliet. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2015. Mr. Rutter was an Army veteran serving with the Army Band. He earned his doctorate in business and worked as a personnel recruiter for local companies, but mainly for Sheaffer Pen. He enjoyed golfing, loved to cook and was an accomplished musician, arranging music to accommodate instruments. He was an active volunteer at Fort Madison High School and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include two daughters, Kim (David) Goble and Sandra Rutter-Wells (Jeff Blanchard) both of Burlington; one son, Michael (Renee) Rutter of Fort Madison; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Elaine Rutter of Lockport, Illinois and nieces and nephews. eive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 7th, at Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral service for Mr. Rutter will be 2 p.m. Friday, January 8th, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Bill Hauser officiating. Memorials have been established for Fort Madison High School Marching Band and Bullis-Rutter Big Band. According to Mr. Rutter's wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
