Carol T. Schuller
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mallard. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. There will be a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Carol Therese (Murphy) Schuller was born July 21, 1928 to Morton and Emma (Soens) Murphy. After graduating from Emmetsburg Catholic High School in 1946, Carol went to work for Ryan Furniture in Emmetsburg. She later went to work for the ASCS office. Carol married Mark Schuller, Jr. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg on June 14, 1952. They raised eight children on the family farm northwest of Mallard. This century farm was the spot where both the Murphy and Schuller extended families gathered. As a loving and gracious hostess, Carol welcomed each of the families for numerous reunions, celebrations and picnics. Everyone could count on Carol's fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy for Sunday dinner. Loving us is what Carol did best. d we had the pleasure of enjoying her wisdom, humor and generous spirit for so many years. Carol passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 7, 2016. She is survived by eight children: Cathy Backstrom of Mallard, Joe (Laura) Schuller of Mallard, Linda (Larry) Ruppert of Mallard, Karen Krug of Ames, John (Joan) Schuller of Grundy Center, IA, Jackie Schuller of Ankeny, Patty (Mike) Brooks of Bowling Green, KY and Peggy Kolpek of Ankeny; twenty grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law: Ruth Schuller of Cedar Rapids, IA, Ann Murphy of San Diego, CA and Alys Murphy of Monroe, WI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Jr.; son-in-law, Dennis Backstrom; her parents and six older siblings: Francis (died at age 11), Louise (Harold) Applequist, M.B. "Turk" Murphy, Cecelia (Cletus) Girres, Jack Murphy and Jeanette (Rich) Barber.
