, served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve and joined Daniel Construction Company in Greenville, SC in 1964. He rose through the company and executive ranks serving as Vice President of the Industrial Group, in 1982; President of the Industrial Sector, Fluor Daniel in 1986; President of Business Units, Fluor Daniel in 1993; and became the Group President, Diversified Services, Fluor Daniel at its formation in 1994. Mr. Stein was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Fluor Daniel in 1997 and joined the company's Board of Directors. In 1999, Mr. Stein was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Fluor Global Services. He retired from Fluor in 2002 as Vice Chairman after 37 years of service. Throughout his career with Fluor, Mr. Stein served as a member of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the Business Roundtable Construction Committee and the University of California at Irvine, Graduate School of Management. Mr. Stein's leadership left an indelible mark on Fluor where he will long be remembered for his management expertise, his business acumen and his genuine interest in developing people. He believed in giving young people the tools to succeed and initiated an innovative Fluor Daniel program. Talented college students were recruited and mentored in leadership, management and business skills. This novel approach developed the next generations of leaders from within. Mr. Stein was a Board Governor at the Lauderdale Yacht Club and was actively involved in all of the committees. The Board Liaison to the Interim GM, Jim helped to select the current LYC General Manager. He led the club's extensive renovations and could be seen daily in his hard hat on site. A huge football fan, Mr. Stein spearheaded all of LYC's many football-related activities and co-hosted the "Annual Moss/Stein Super Bowl Extravaganza." Jim was larger than life- an amazing man who was perfectly imperfect. He roared like a lion, and went out like lamb. Jim Stein's "Celebration of Life" will be held on Sunday, January 31st at 2pm at the Lauderdale Yacht Club, 1725 SE12 Street, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, 33316.
