Edward Francis Ruddy

Edward Ruddy, 70, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, January 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, January 18, 2016 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. a Mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a Vigil at 5:00 p.m. all at the funeral home. Ed is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rose Mary; son, Stuart and his wife Brooke of Johnston; daughter, Sara Roth and her husband Adam of East Dubuque, IL; son, Jarret and his wife Andrea of West Des Moines; son, Justin of Johnston; grandchildren, Sophie and Jack Ruddy; Allison and Blake Ruddy; Karrigan and Deagan Roth; sister, Rita (Paul) Reedy of Fort Dodge; brother, Jim (LuAnn) Ruddy of Polk City; and brother-in-law, Elba Lake of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Wilma (Lawhorn) Ruddy; sister and brother-in-law, Dolores and Steve Hamas; sister Jean Lake and infant sister, Rose Marie Ruddy. educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from Saint Edmond High School in 1964. Ed enlisted in the Navy in February of 1965 and he served in Vietnam for over 20 months. He received his honorable discharge in November of 1968. On August 22, 1970 he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Young. The couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Ed worked as a Journey Wireman for 40 years, retiring in 2008. He was an avid Packers and Chicago Cubs fan and he enjoyed his grandchildren, his garage, the backyard, fishing, and gardening. Ed was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and I.B.E.W.-L. U.347. He was a longtime friend of Bill W. and Dr. Bob. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
