Evelyn M. Cowan, 89, of Council Bluffs, IA, passed away in Council Bluffs on January 15, 2016. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood, IA. Burial will be in the Silver City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2016 at the funeral home in Glenwood from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Memorials are directed to the family. Evelyn Marie Madison Cowan, oldest of nine children of Truman Clifford and Ellen Mary (Johnson) Fender, was born on February 17, 1926 near Carson, Iowa. She attended country school through the fourth grade in the Carson area. While her parents worked for farmers, Evelyn lived and attended schools in the Harlan and Oakland, Iowa areas. Her family moved to Silver City, Iowa where Evelyn graduated from the Silver City High School in 1943. Evelyn lived in Silver City and Council Bluffs, Iowa. Evelyn married Hans Madison and was blessed with four children, Bernard William, Marie Annette, June Janette, and Charles Chris. She later married Joe W. Cowan and resided in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. Daughters of American Veterans Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary and the Eagles Auxiliary. Evelyn loved flowers and her rock garden, collecting poems and listening to music. Evelyn passed away on January 15, 2016 in Council Bluffs at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 29 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Hans Madison and Joe Cowan; son Bernard Madison; daughter Marie Harris; brothers, Truman Fender, Jr., Marion Fender, Art Fender and Clifford Fender; and sisters, Lois Fritz and Lucille Archer. Evelyn is survived by her daughter Janette Arrick and husband Clyde of Council Bluffs, son Charles Madison of Bellevue, NE; sisters, Luella Franke, and Edna Woodard and husband Harold, all of Glenwood; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends
