Helen "Marie" Haug A memorial service for Marie Haug was held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Grace Church, Algona with Pastor Peter Talbot officiating. Inurnment took place in Riverview Cemetery, Algona. Helen "Marie" Haug was born on a farm in North Prairie, MN, near Lanesboro, on October 14th, 1934, to Clarence and Mabel Leora (Hildestad) Pederson. After graduating from High School in Lanesboro, Marie spent a year at St. Olaf before graduating from Fairview Hospital Nurses School in Minneapolis as a Registered Nurse in 1956. She was married on September 24th, 1955 to Donald C. Haug, and they had four children whom they raised while Marie worked in the field of nursing for almost 40 years in total. Many of those years were spent working at St. Mary's in the Neuro ICU. After retiring from nursing, she enjoyed giving tours at Mayowood and the Plumber House for over 10 years. Marie loved traveling with her husband, enjoying trips to Europe, Italy, and Las Vegas, to name a few. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and baking for others, as well as sewing. Marie loved the Lord above all, and led several Bible studies for over 20 years, doing her best to lead others to the saving faith found only in Jesus Christ, as well as helping them grow in the knowledge and truth of our Lord. Marie passed away Monday, January 25th, 2016 at Palo Alto County Hospital, Emmetsburg. Marie is survived by her husband, Donald C. Haug of Emmetsburg, her sons, Cameron Haug and his wife Deb, and David Haug and his wife Bonnie of Minnesota; as well as two grandchildren, Amanda Adams and her husband Chris "Red" of Algona, and Monica Hjelmeland of Urbandale; a son-in-law, Craig Hjelmeland and his wife Bobbi Jo of Algona; as well as several great grandchildren. Marie was preceded in death by her parents; as well as her daughters Kimberly JoAnn Haug on August 12, 2014, and DeAnn Marie Hjelmeland on June 28, 2005.
