Marva Jean Gilkey Hill

Mrs. Marva Jean Gilkey Hill, 87, of Burlington died at 8:40 a.m. Friday, February 19, 2016, at Klein's Center. She had formerly lived at Sunnybrook Assisted Living. Born November 22, 1928 in Columbus Junction, she was the daughter of William and Laurene (Bollenbach) Gilkey. On February 27, 1949 she married Roger Hill in Columbus Junction. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2003. Mrs. Hill was a 1946 graduate of Columbus Junction High School. She was the manager at Kirlin's for many years. She was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church and Methodist Women's Circle. Among the many organizations Marva was proud to be part of were Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Mermaids Swimming Group at Great River, Marvelous Marva Club and her beloved Crafty Seven. She also volunteered with R.S.V.P. and at the Hospital. She was known as an excellent cook and talented crafter. Her family and her friends were the center of her life. e sister, Merna Gilkey Martin of Clarksville, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger Hill; son, Brent Hill; brother, William Gilkey; stepmother, Twyla Gilkey Isett; and stepfather, Bud Kraus. The celebration of life for Mrs. Hill will be decided at a later date. Inurnment will be in Columbus City Cemetery at a later date. Memorials have been established for West Burlington United Methodist Church and Des Moines County Humane Society and may be mailed c/o Lunning Chapel, 2620 Mt. Pleasant St., Burlington, IA 52601. Mrs. Hill has deeded her body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy for scientific purposes.
