Opal Bailey Ernst

Opal Bailey Ernst, 105, of Danville, Ky. died April 13, 2016 in Tipton, Iowa while being cared for by her daughter, Phyllis Joy Stumbo. She was born December 7, 1910 on the family farm near Grahn, Ky to Andrew Thomas Bailey and Sarah Sloan Bailey. She was the fourth of ten children. She was the widows of husbands Robert Raymond Ernst and Arnold Alva Wilburn. Opal was a retired teacher having begun her career in 1932 at the Grahn Graded School, Grahn, Ky. She assisted her husband in business endeavors primarily in Olive Hill, Ky. while raising two daughters. She later returned to teaching in Owensboro, Ky and retired from the Worthington, Ohio public school system in 1973. She was a lifetime member of the Olive Hill Chapter of Eastern Star being awarded a 75 year pin in 2014. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Danville. She is survived by her daughters Phyllis (Hugh) Stumbo of Tipton, Iowa and Martha Sue (Franklin) Jarvis of Danville, Ky. two step-daughters, Louise (Rollie) Blevins of Grahn, Ky and Lorraine Stapleton of Olive Hill, Ky, one step-son Terry Wilburn of Inglis, Florida and one sister Maye Allison of Columbus, Ohio.
