Heart in Ayrshire and at Holy Family in Emmetsburg. He ushered at funerals, was a Eucharistic Minister, and he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. As a Knight, he held many offices, including Grand Knight. He was a member of the Fourth Degree. In his time, not farming, he loved the competitiveness of playing baseball, softball and golf (including a hole-in-one). He shared this love of playing ball with his children. He attended their music, plays and sports school activities. He also enjoyed playing cards with his family, though cribbage and Texas hold'em where his favorites. His favorite sports teams were the St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. For several years, he took his brothers and/or sons with him on the annual fishing trip to Flin Flan, Canada. He and Bonnie also enjoyed dancing at the DMT Ballroom on Sunday afternoons. From a young age, he enjoyed working on the farm. They raised cattle, chickens and hogs. He farmed until retirement in 1998, when they moved to Emmetsburg from the family farm. They took bus trips to almost all of the states, as well as three overseas trips to Germany, Ireland and Greece. He enjoyed driving the 1950 Plymouth in many parades and on the Motor Iowa Road Trip. The 1934 A was extra special to him, as he fully restored it. He and the 1934 A were pictured on the cover and featured in a story in the Fastline magazine. Most important of all was spending time with family. Their family prayed together, worked together, played together... Loved.
