Julia Lusher Smith

Julia Lusher Smith, age 90, of Sioux City and formerly of Spirit Lake, Iowa, died on May 2, 2016 at the Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Saturday May 7, 2016 at the Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be 1:00 PM until service time on Saturday at Schuchert-Lentz Funeral Home. Julia Mae Lusher, the daughter of Ralph Owen and Janet (Arthur) Lusher, was born on September 15, 1925 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1944 and attended Iowa State University. On September 30, 1945 Julia was united in marriage with Frederick Ross Smith at the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. Julia had worked as a bookkeeper and home health aide. She also owned and operated Carrie's Donut and Coffee Shop in Arnolds Park with her daughter Carrie. Julia was a member of the Methodist Church and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed garage sales and playing the keyboard. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a daughter, Ida Mishler; a sister, Rachael Elder; a brother, Richard Lusher in WWII; and her twin, Rev. James Lusher. A Celebration of Life picnic at Memorial Park in Spirit Lake to immediately follow the service, where family and friends are welcome to share their memories of Julia.
