Frederick Junior Osborn

Fred Osborn, 83, of Stratford, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Stratford Specialty Care Center in Stratford. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford with Pastor Brian McNamara officiating. Burial will follow the service in Oakwood Cemetery with military rites by the Boone Veterans Council. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the church. Frederick Junior Osborn, the son of Frederick Helmous and Annabelle (Powell) Osborn was born on November 5, 1932 in Homer. He attended schools in Homer and Stratford. He farmed before entering the Army and served two years during the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany in the Motor Pool. He married Shirley L. Wilson on June 30, 1951 and sons Jack and Lyle were born. The couple later divorced. Following his military service he returned to farming. In 1967 the family moved to Stratford, where he farmed part-time and started working for Stratford Implement. On January 14, 1974, he opened the Osborn Tractor Repair Business in Stratford. ist Church in Stratford. He served 12 years on the Stratford School Board and five years on the Stratford Kids Academy Day Care Board and was a past-president of both. He was a PUFL member of Post #576 of the F.W. Sonksen American Legion in Stratford, a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, a former member of the Stratford Bit and Spur Saddle Club, a former Small Engine Project Leader in Hamilton County 4-H. He started Santa's Cottage in Stratford and the Farmers Market in Webster City. In September of 2012, a metal park bench dedicated in Fred's honor was placed in the City Plaza in Webster City where the Farmers Market is held. Fred and Lois jointly received the LaVerne and Pauline Leeds Community Service Award in January of 2001. He drove a Stratford School Bus for 18 years after his first retirement as a tractor mechanic. Fred was proud to be a 4-Gallon Blood Donor. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lois, son Jack (Jane Felts) of Webster City; step-daughter, Diane Love of Des Moines; step-sons, David Angstrom of Huntington Beach, CA, Brian (Sherri) Angstrom of Ames, 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with number 19 planning an appearance later this year; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Don Helgevold of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Jane Loux of Clarion, Carol Helgevold of Fort Dodge; daughter-in-law, Donna Osborn of Fort Dodge.
