Robert Ahlers

Robert D. Ahlers Sr.81, of Indianapolis passed away February 28, 2010. He was born April, 28, 1928 in Indianapolis, IN, the son of William & Irene (Barnhill) Ahlers. He was a graduate of Arsenal Technical High school and attended Indiana University on a football scholarship. He was an 18 year member of the Indiana National Guard retiring as a Lt. Colonel and Provost Marshal of the 38th Infantry Division Military Police. He was President of Ahlers and Associates LLC, an Indiana based employee benefits agency which he founded in 1966. Mr. Ahlers was a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable, a life time member of the Chairman?s Council, NAIFA and the Health Underwriters Association. Mr. Ahlers was a charter member of Knights of Columbus, St Pius 10th Council # 3433. He was a 4th degree member and past Faithful Navigator of the Knights of Columbus. He was a devout member of Christ the King Catholic Church for 59 years and served as a Eucharistic minister. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Dorothea (Schwert) Ahlers, his 5 sons, Robert D. Additional survivors include Dr. John Garber, (son in law) and Mary Spragg, (sister in law). He was preceded in death by his daughter, Anne T. (Ahlers) Garber. Bob was a loving husband and father who placed his faith and his family above all else. He was also an avid golfer who enjoyed his time and friends in Ft Myers, Fl. He loved Notre Dame Football, IU basketball and his visits to Ireland. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Christ The King church or Cathedral High School.
