Dr. Landwehr

Dr. Alfons Landwehr, age 94, of Indianapolis, passed away March 31, 2016. He was the eighth of 12 children, born October 8, 1921 in Lohne, Germany, to the late Heinrich and Anna(Fortmann) Landwehr. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie(John) Koke; son, Tim(Cheryl) Landwehr; grandchildren, Shannon(Matt) Branic, Kevin(Laura) Koke, Jason(Kiley) Koke, and Rachel Landwehr; great grandchildren, Lily, Nolan, Emerson, and Josie. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hilda(Broering) Landwehr, in 1995. Alfons graduated with a degree in medicine from Goettingen University in Germany. He moved to the United States in 1951 and became a citizen in 1956. He practiced pulmonary medicine at Sunnyside Sanatorium, Wishard Hospital, and St. Francis Hospital until his retirement in 1985. He was a member and past president of the Indiana Lung Association. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4, 2016 from 4-8 PM at Leppert Mortuary - Nora, 740 E. 86th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Dr. East, Indianapolis, IN. He enjoyed the friendships made at Marquette Manor over the past seven years and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who knew him as "G.P."
