Herman J. Platt

Herman Joseph Platt was born July 13, 1926, in Sykeston, North Dakota, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Marking) Platt. The family later moved to Washington state for a short time before moving to Iowa and settling in Algona. He grew up in Algona and attended school at St. Cecelia's Academy. Following his schooling he worked on a local farm. He later began a career in road construction, which took Herman to the Southwestern part of the United States. On April 13, 1960, Herman was united in marriage to Harriet Supry in Taos, New Mexico. Herman worked 47 years as an Operating Engineer of heavy equipment in road construction, spending most of his time in Arizona. He later moved back to Algona in 1994 after retiring. Herman was very active and spent much of his time operating a ham radio. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a member of the Algona Knights of Columbus Council #952. Herman died Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. He was 89.
