Frederick Edwin Schiess

Frederick Edwin Schiess, 87, formerly of Miami and Balsam, North Carolina passed away at the home of his daughter, Kathy, In Davie, Fl. on Saturday, July 23, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Rockville Center, New York, son of Robert John and Helen Louise (Moos) Schiess. His family relocated to Miami, Florida when Fred was twelve, and he went on to graduate from Ponce de Leon High School in 1946. Fred furthered his commitment to education, graduating from the University of Miami School of Law, Cum Laude, and later earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Army Reserves and served at the Pentagon. He retired with Honors and was awarded the distinguished Army Commendation Medal for his service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Before his retirement Fred worked as a Probate, Real Estate and Corporate Lawyer. He handled the legal transactions in the development of Bal Harbor. He was a member of the Dade County Bar Association and Chairman of the Ethics Committee. in 2013, they moved back to Florida to be close to family. His beloved wife of 63 years, Mary Maschal Schiess died in April of 2015. Survived by his loving children, Kathryn (Ali) Marvasti, son, Steven (Eva) Schiess, his devoted identical twin brother, Robert John (Donna) Schiess, Jr; M.D. Also survived by five grandchildren, Erin (Pedro) Ballestas, Kevin (Natalie Lenzen) and Jonathan Marvasti, Brian and Scott Schiess and five great grandchildren, Sara, Christian, Julian, Ariella and Penelope. A private memorial with Military Honors is planned.
