John J. Saltzman, Jr., 77, of Emerson, NE passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at Heritage of Emerson Care Center in Emerson, NE. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE with Rev. Gretchen Ritola officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Emerson, NE. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M., with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr Funeral Home in South Sioux City, NE. John was born in Sioux City, IA on May 9, 1939, the son of John J. Saltzman, Sr. and Dorothy (Fowler) Saltzman. He attended school in South Sioux City, NE, worked for the City of South Sioux City, and helped his dad build homes in South Sioux City before opening his own plumbing business. John married Virginia Huggenberger on August 1, 1958 at First Lutheran Church in South Sioux City, NE. To this union 3 daughters and 2 sons were born. John was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE and served as Union Secretary for the Brotherhood of Maintenance Railway Union. John enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, reading western novels and traveling. Survivors include his children, Linda (Joe) Mildorfer of South Sioux City, NE, Ron (Anne) Saltzman, Sharon (Robert) Demke and Duane (Willa) Saltzman all of Emerson, NE and Karen (Tim) Vogel of Papillion, NE; grandchildren, Sara, Nicole, Matt, Ben, Brandi, Natashia, Litton, Nick, Megan, Justin Neil, Laurel, Abby and Lexi; many great-grandchildren; sister, Betty (Dave) Laumbach and brother, Jim (Teresa) Santee all of South Sioux City, NE; sister-in-law, Pat Saltzman of N. Sioux City, SD; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Saltzman; his parents, John Saltzman and Dorothy Santee; and siblings, Rosella (John) Reese, Tom Saltzman, Sr. and Martin Santee.
