Roger Leon Hand, 71, of Sperry died at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, September 1, 2016, at Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction. Born March 30, 1945 in Burlington, he was the son of Leonard and Nellie Rice Hand. He was married twice. He was an Air Force Vietnam veteran. Mr. Hand worked 33 years for and retired from the U.S. Gypsum Co. of Sperry. He was a member of the last graduating class of Zion School and junior class of Sperry before leaving to graduate from Mediapolis High School. Mr. Hand was a life member of B.A.S.S. and North American Fishing Club. He also was a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Sacred Circle of St. Labre Indian School, Native American Rights Funds, National Museum of the American Indian (which his name is on the honor wall on the fourth floor), St. Joseph Indian School and many other Indian organizations. He loved fishing, flea marketing, coin collecting and sports. Survivors include his son, John of Columbus City; daughter, Connie of Texas; three grandchildren; three sisters, Bev and Sue of Mediapolis and Marilyn of Texas; and two brothers, Rickie of Burlington and Gerald of Mediapolis. ents, sister Ramona and three brothers, Marvin, Marion and Percy. The graveside service and committal for Mr. Hand will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 6th at Keokuk National Cemetery. Full military honors will be rendered. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Hospice Compassus.
