Gene Gough, 78 of Council Bluffs, IA, formerly of Silver City, IA, passed away on September 22, 2016 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be on Monday, September 26, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials are directed to the family. Carl Eugene Gough, one of four sons of Helen Grace (Brown) and David Neu Gough, was born on July 7, 1938 in Nebraska City, Nebraska. Fondly known as "Gene", he grew up in Hamburg and Treynor, Iowa areas, attended school through the eleventh grade and started helping with the farm. Gene began his trucking career driving for Waller Transfer in Malvern, Iowa, followed by Wilcox Trucking in Glenwood, Iowa, Thomas Brothers Trucking, Inc. in Mineola, Iowa, Clausen Brothers Trucking in Treynor and Dilts Trucking in Crescent, Iowa. In the 1970s, Gene worked for the City of Silver City, Iowa and mowed the Silver City Cemetery. He also welded for Douglas & Lomason Manufacturing in Red Oak, Iowa. , Bonnie and Delmar Decker, on October 3, 1959 at the Silver City United Methodist Church Parsonage. Most of their married life was spent around Silver City except for a few years in Glenwood. They were blessed with one daughter, Cheryl Ann. Gene was a member of the Silver City Fire Department. He enjoyed feeding the birds, fishing, and woodworking. Gene and Betty were married nearly 41 years when Betty passed away on September 9, 2000. Gene moved to live at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He passed away there on September 22, 2016 at the age of 78 years, 2 months, and 15 days. In addition to his beloved wife, Gene was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, David Gough and Donald Gough and wife Virginia; and brother-in-law Dwayne Menschel. Gene is survived by his daughter Cheryl Gough of Council Bluffs; granddaughter Sarah Butts and husband Lonnie of Silver City and their children, Isaac Gene Butts and Reagen Lynn Butts; brother Allan Gough of Perry, IA; sisters-in-law, Viola Gough of Texas, Bonnie Decker and husband Delmar of Glenwood, Kathryn Hatcher of Council Bluffs, and Sharon Menschel of Fargo, ND; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends.
