Donald R. Couture

Donald R. Couture of Deerfield Beach, Florida passed away on October 13, 2016 surrounded by his family after a brief illness while under the care of Hospice by the Sea in Boca Raton, Florida. He was 82 years old. Donald was born in the town of Fitchburg, Massachusetts on Sept. 4, 1934. He was the 2nd child of Frieda and William Couture. Loving father of Lynda McDermott (Scott), Cheryl Kitterick (Tim), Karen Couture (Michael Carnie), Denise Cowell (Kevin), Stephen Couture and Casandra Holton (Joe). Brother of Deacon Jim Couture (Ruth), Carolyn Normindin, Janice Greenberg (Peter) and the late William and John Couture. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Uriah, Zachary, Amanda, Jeremy, Nina, Maxxim and Caleb, and four great grandchildren, Xavier, Berkley, Jonas and Zephyr. Donald finished his GED education at night school while he was raising his growing family. He served in the National Guard as a Staff Sargent of Company H, 26th Division, 181st Infantry of Fort Drum, New York. e became a master at his craft installing floors before he retired. He was a lifelong lover of the sea and captained his many boats throughout the waters of Cape Cod, the Florida coast, and the Florida Keys. He was very involved with the U.S. Power Squadron throughout his life and took many advanced classes to further his knowledge about sailing, navigation and boating safety. He was also a generous donor to the Last Mile Ride, which provides "end of life" care to patients in Gifford, Vermont. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday October 22, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Horizon Funeral & Cremation Services, 4650 N. Federal Highway, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064. The family will receive relatives and friends one hour in advance of services and at a reception immediately following at the funeral home.
