Robert "Bob" W. Geddes

Robert "Bob" W. Geddes, 87, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 24, 2016. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 5, 1929 to William and Helen Geddes. Bob is survived by his wife, Janice; his children, Brad (Shannon) Geddes, Gretchen (Jeff) Slemmons, Robin Watson, Garth (Robin) Geddes, and Paige (Joe) Gilbert; eleven grandchildren; Sammy, Tara, Hana, Clay, Claire, Faith, Nicholas, Gracie, Gabby, James, and Johnny; sisters, Carol Cutrona and Wilma Melvin, and brother, Sam Geddes. After working in the steel mills in Northern Indiana, Bob joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. He later went to law school, getting his law degree from Indiana University in 1962. Bob set the bar for both excellency and the highest of ethics. Everyone who worked with Bob was changed by the experience. Bob was Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana and part time United States Magistrate. He was a former member of the board of managers of the Indianapolis Bar Association, and former member of the State Supreme Court's Character and Fitness Committee. as President of the Indy Lawyers Club. Bob served two terms as President of the Indiana Athletic Club and served on its board of directors. He also served as Vice President of the Indy Bar Association. Additionally, Bob was a member of the Indianapolis American Inn of Court. Bob was a partner at Hume Smith Geddes Green & Simmons, LLP. To his partners, associates, and staff at the firm, Bob was always the model to which they all strived. Bob always went above and beyond and earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and friends. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leppert Mortuary, Nora, with a service on Friday, December 30th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Luke's United Methodist Church. Burial will for at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church or Lewy Body Dementia Association.
