George R. " Dick" Denny, 86, Indianapolis, passed away peacefully December 29, 2016. He was born in Connersville, IN to the late Lawrence and Nellie Denny on September 10, 1930. Dick graduated from Richmond High School, class of 1948 and went on to study journalism at Duke University. Dick proudly served our country in the U.S. Army. He spent 30+ years at the IndyStar News as a sports writer covering professional, amateur, and college teams and later an author of several independently published books on local sports about bowling and high school athletics.
Dick is survived by his four children, Christopher Denny, Sean (Leslye) Denny, Timothy (Sherry) Denny, and Shannon (Matthew) Thompson; 10 grandchildren; and brother, William "Bill" Denny.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Denny, and sister in law, Hilda Denny.
Visitation will be held at Leppert Mortuary and Crematory Services, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, IN on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Rd, Indianapolis, IN, on Wednesday January 4, 2017 at 11:00.
