Vera L. Fish

Vera Lucille (Fett) Fish was born on January 5, 1925 in rural Corwith, daughter of Forest and Ruby (Santee) Fett. Vera was the fourth child of 15. She grew up in Corwith and attended country school in LuVerne through the 8th grade. On July 28, 1944, Vera was united in marriage to Albert Fish at the Grace Baptist Church in Corwith. After their marriage, the two of them farmed together for 29 years. While raising children, Vera worked with Albert on their farm. Vera enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, making gifts and raising children. She also enjoyed gardening, both flowers and vegetables and playing games. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Vera was a leader in local 4-H clubs, held offices in her church, enjoyed Thursday club and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 plus years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church until it closed and then became active in the United Methodist Church. She also taught Sunday School and Bible School. eacefully at the age of 92 on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at the Kanawha Community Home surrounded by family members. She had been a resident there since December, 2015. She is survived by two children, Carol (Jack) Niewald of Corwith and Brett (Lana) Fish of Corwith; a daughter-in-law, Laura (Skip) Fish; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her husband, Albert; parents; children, Albert "Skip" Fish Jr., Ronald Fish and Bryan Fish; one grandchild, Luke Fish; one great-grandchild, Trevor Webb and 13 brothers and sisters.
