Darrell Darwin Polk, 84, born July 8, 1930 to William S. Polk and Matilda Kersey Polk, passed away March 23, 2015. Born and raised in Boca Grande, FL. Darrell attended and graduated from Boca Grande High School. Darrell was an enterprising man his whole life; he began work at an early age, working in a soda shop and setting pins at the local bowling alley. As he grew older, he wore many hats as he worked as an electrician, a skilled cabinet maker with Griffin Builders. He along with his wife, Margaret, to whom he was married for 63 years, opened the Barnichol Hardware which they operated for 38 years. At the same time, Darrell was Fire Chief of the Boca Grande Volunteer Fire Department for 33 years. He also found time to be an EMT / ambulance driver, projectionist at the local theatre, drove the mosquito control truck, delivered and serviced LP gas. Was general manager of the Gasparilla Island Water Association for 20 years, and was a director on the Florida Rural Water Board for 21 years. illa Island Water Association. Darrell was a man of faith. A dedicated, life long member, (70 years) of the First Baptist Church of Boca Grande, and served as a Deacon and song leader for many years. Darrell is survived by his 5 children; Debbie (Cary) Smith, Cary, NC, Suzanne (Mic) Gaver, North Port, FL, Josalyn Snyder, Shalimar, FL, Darrell Jr., Boca Grande, FL and Shari (Gary) Christenson, Rotonda, FL. 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Darrell was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, who passed away in 2014. There will be a viewing on Sunday, March 29, 4:00 â€" 6:00 PM, at the Lemon Bay Funeral Home, Englewood, FL. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 30, 6:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church of Boca Grande. Burial will be private in Sarasota Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Boca Grande. â€?"Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.” Rev 14:13
