Donald A. Cobb, 79, of Carmel departed this life Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Don was born April 27, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, the only son to the late Leonard J. and Margaret S. (Bone) Cobb. After graduating from Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ, Don enlisted in the United States Marine Corp, and following an honorable discharge, he went on to earn his degree in business from Indiana University. Don pursued a forty-year career as a financial advisor, working for Merrill Lynch for twenty-five years and then PaineWebber / UBS until his retirement. He was most proud of his work helping clients establish charitable remainder trusts which benefited universities, charities and organizations throughout the United States. He began his career in Columbus, Ohio where he met Betty and they began their family. Don always put family first, and when the children were young, the family relocated to Indiana to be closer to Don's parents. Don was a member of Carmel United Methodist Church, Centennial Bible Church and Mount Pleasant Christian Church. ound at events supporting his children and grandchildren, watching IU sports, the Colts or following Indy 500 news. In retirement, Don found a second career as a Christian author, contributing articles to several journals and also publishing two books, God Is Everywhere Volumes I & II. Don remained a supporter of Indiana University throughout his life, volunteering as a mentor to undergraduate business students, and establishing an undergraduate scholarship recognizing the role the University had in his career. Other service efforts during his lifetime included volunteering as a Big Brother, coaching youth sports, and serving as a Stephen Minister in his church. Don is survived by his family, Betty Cobb; children, Susan Knauer, Steve (Kenya) Cobb and Scott (Alison) Cobb; eight beloved grandchildren Michael, Jacob, Drew, Lauren, Megan, Kennedy, Kirsten and Brady; and a host of dear friends. Visitation for Don will be from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, February 19th at Leppert Nora Chapel. If desired, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association.
