Blaine Eldon McNeil, 73, formerly of New London, died of Parkinson's Dementia on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Great River Klein Center, West Burlington. He was born November 8, 1943 in Burlington, the son of Frank and Neva Smith McNeil. On March 20, 1965 he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Dodds at the New London United Methodist Church where they were members. He was a 1962 graduate of New London High School and attended Iowa Wesleyan College for two years. He also served in the Army Reserves. Mr. McNeil began his career in 1965 at the Iowa-Illinois Telephone Company in New London, until the company closed. In 1967 he started working at IAAP in Middletown, retiring 35 ½ years later. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and mushroom hunting, and sitting on his patio watching the squirrels and birds. Most of all, he enjoyed being around his grandchildren. Mr. McNeil is survived by his wife of Burlington; a daughter, Brenda (Shabazz) Williams of Burlington; and grandchildren, Shabazz and ShaeLee Williams. March 4, at Elliott Chapel, New London. Visitation will begin after 9:00 Saturday with the family greeting friends from 10:00 until time of the service. According to his wishes, his body will be cremated following the service. A memorial has been established to Great River Hospice, Klein Center Stars Hollow, and the New London Fire and Rescue.
