A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at 10:30 AM, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ledyard. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, with military honors conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM on Monday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of Bancroft and will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church. Sherwin Lee Brandt passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, IA of complications from a stroke at the age of seventy-two. Sherwin Lee Brandt was born February 9, 1945, on the family farm north of Ledyard, son of Lawrence and Lurene (Berhow) Brandt. He attended elementary school in Elmore, MN graduating from Ledyard High School in 1963. He served in the United States Army stationed in Germany and in the Reserves until 1971. July 20, 1968, Sherwin was married to Sandy Engelby at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, MN. They lived in the Albert Lea area before returning to Ledyard where he ran the family corn shelling business for many years. ent. Sherwin loved family and especially enjoyed being surrounded by grandchildren. He was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeyes and Minnesota Vikings fan and spent many hours in his flower gardens and doing yard work. He had served as Chief of the volunteer fire department, Commander of the American Legion, was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Brandt of Ledyard; three sons and eleven grandchildren, Shane (Elizabeth) Brandt of Castle Pines, CO and their children, Kaden, Kesley, Kora, Kinnick, Kyrie, Micah and Nephi; Cory (Sarah) Brandt of Chicago, IL and their children Truman and Iris; and Scott (Elis Ortiz) Brandt of Austin, TX and their son Jax; and a granddaughter, Alysha (Ryan) Patterson of Cedar Rapids. Survived by a brother, Harlyn (Judi) Brandt of Omaha, NE; his father-in-law, Vincent Engelby of Albert Lea, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter Jodie in infancy; a son, Lee Brandt on October 17, 2016; and a brother, Marlyn Brandt.
