Joseph R. "Pops" Poplar, Sr., 88, of Avon Lake passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Poplar was born in Lorain on March 24, 1929, the son of the late Benjamin J. and Ann (nee Kurowski) Poplar. He graduated from Lorain High School with the class of 1947. He was also a US Army veteran.
He was a member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church in Lorain.
Mr. Poplar worked as a precision grinder at Bendix in Elyria, for 33 years, retiring in 1983. Following his retirement he owned and operated Joella's Fish & Chips in Lorain and the Five Star Artist Agency in Lorain.
He enjoyed traveling. As a musician, he played bass fiddle in several groups, including the Chet Sikora Polka Band.

rimack, NH; Rand (Kristine) Poplar of Milford, NH, He is also survived by grandchildren Nicole Hernandez, Michael Bansek, Jason Poplar, Sean Poplar, Aaron Poplar, Amanda Beckner, Jillian Poplar, Nicholas Poplar, Meredith Poplar, Victoria Poplar, Tate Poplar, Trista Poplar, great grandchildren: Madison, Austin, Evion, Jake, Kyle, Phoeby, Addison, Jackson, Wyatt, Ember and special "adopted" grandchildren: Paige, Ian, Rachael and Zachary, step daughter, Linda L Bansek of Elyria, step son,Edward C. Brady, of Avon, and a sister Ann Marie Lehman, of Casa Grande, AZ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Benjamin P. Poplar and Richard F. Poplar.
Friends may call on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. in the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 28, 2017 in the Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church with Mr. Chuck Boals, chaplain, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park , Amherst Township.
