Elena (Helen) A Delgado was born in 1931. She passed away peacefully at home from a heart attack the day after Mother's Day, Monday, May 15th. Helen was a resident of Sunrise, FL at the time of her passing. Helen's life began in Havana, Cuba to parents Alejandro and Maria Alvarez. She graduated from the University of Havana. Helen married the love of her life, Donald in 1959 and their love for each other continued for almost 60 years. They came to America in 1967 with the dream to live free and to build a life for themselves and their children through hard work. Helen is a proud retiree of the University of Florida with 25 years' service and an avid University of Florida Gator football fan. She resided in Gainesville, Florida for 35 years. Helen was a faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene for 45 years beginning at Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Gainesville and ending with Hollywood Church of the Nazarene. Helen had a passion for missionary work, was a local missionary president for a number of years and was a fervent believer in the Holiness movement. of almost 60 years, Donald, son, Don Junior of Davie and daughter, Jackie of Saint Petersburg, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Alejandro and Maria Alvarez, sister, Conchita and her husband Valladares, sister, Modesta and her husband Manolo Ramos, and brother, Pete Alvarez. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, May 22nd at 11:00 am in the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene, 5901 Taylor St, Hollywood, FL with Rev. John Weller officiating. Interment will follow at Fred Hunter's Memorial Park, Hollywood, FL. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to services from 10:00 - 11:00 am. All arrangements are entrusted to the direction and care of the Fred Hunter Funeral Home, Hollywood, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to 'Missionary Health Care' (NMI) through the Hollywood Church of the Nazarene.
