MADISON - Dean Russell Meier, age 81, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 27, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family. Dean was born on April 7, 1936, in Madison, WI, the son of Rueben "Jack" Meier and Edith "Babe" Hering. He attended Madison Central High School, and in April of 1961 he received his Cosmetology Diploma from Accredited Schools of Beauty Culture. He married his best friend, Constance "Connie" Meier, on April 4, 1970, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Madison, and became an instant dad to her three young girls. Dean was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Madison. He was a professional cosmetologist, owning Mr. Dean Salon of Beauty in Madison until 1972. Dean retired in 1999 from Madison Metro Bus Company, where he worked since 1972 having earned countless Safe Driver awards. Dean and Connie owned and operated A-Key Shop in Madison from 1972 to 1986. Dean also enjoyed collecting toy guns and western memorabilia, and very proudly displayed his prized possessions at The Gunslinger Saloon. ho loved his cowboy boots and hats, which made him hard to miss! He also enjoyed volunteering his barbering and roller skating skills in order to raise funds for many worthy causes. Survivors include his three step-daughters, Suzanne (Dennis) DiPiazza, Lisa (Jon) Quade, and Jill Oelke, and former son in-law, Ron Oelke; Dean was "Papa" to five wonderful grandchildren, Patricia and Adam DiPiazza , Christopher and Colleen (Sean Madderom) Oelke, and Michael (Kathleen) Quade; one great-granddaughter, Eleanor Constance Quade; He is further survived by niece/nephews, Pamela, Joshua, Bruce, Michael, Steve and Cindy; brother/sisters in-law, Don (Betty) Meier, Ruth Meier, and Shirley Meier. He was preceded in death by his parents; by brothers/sister in-law Charles, James, and John (Donna), and niece, Lynda. Dean's Memorial Service will take place at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 2418 N Sherman Avenue, Madison, on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at 1 p.m. A visitation will also take place at the funeral home from 12 p.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will conclude with a private family ceremony at Roselawn Memorial Park, Madison. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that all memorials be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, 322 E. Washington Ave., Madison, WI 53703 or to Agrace Hospice, 5395 E. Cheryl Parkway, Fitchburg, WI 53711.
