Lois Brustman

MADISON - Lois A. Brustman, age 94, passed away peacefully at her beloved All Saints Community home on Friday June 2, 2017.  Lois was born in Bloomer, WI, on Jan. 6, 1923, to Otto and Anna (Steichen) Schmidmayr.  She graduated from Bloomer High School in 1940, and the University Wisconsin - Eau Claire, with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education in 1944. Lois loved teaching and her students while she taught in the Superior, Kenosha, Shorewood Hills, and Madison School Systems.  A charter member of the parish, Lois taught CCD at St. Maria Goretti in Madison for 23 years, as well. Following her husband's retirement Lois enjoyed working for Hallmark Ambassador, with her new store installations and revisions team throughout Wisconsin, retiring after 25 years, at age 90.  

Lois married Robert C. Brustman on July 31, 1954 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Bloomer, Wisconsin. in the Adult and Resurrection Choirs. She was actively involved in the All Saints Community, where she resided, and treasured her friends. Lois loved to play the piano, particularly for Mass celebrations at All Saints Chapel.  She enjoyed the many activities at All Saints, and was particularly proud of achieving 299 and 300 scores on her Wii bowling league.

Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Paul Starkey of Ossian, IN; her grandchildren, Jessica (Ben) Stuckey, of Craigville, IN, and Ben Starkey of Denver, CO; great-granddaughter, Claire Stuckey; sister-in-law Lois Heidner, Buena Park, CA; nephews; and many friends who meant so much to her.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband Bob; sons Jim and David; her parents; her brother Francis Schmidmayr; along with dear departed friends and family members, including Melanie Brown, of Fort Atkinson, WI, who gave Lois' husband, Bob, the "gift of life" as a transplant donor, to whom Lois and her family will be eternally grateful. 

A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating Lois' life will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH  at 11 am on Tuesday, June 6th, 2017, 5313 Flad Ave, Madison, WI.  Family and friends may also call during the Visitation from 9 am until the time of the Mass on Tuesday. Lois will be laid to rest at the Roselawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. 

Memorials may be made to St Maria Goretti Parish School, or All Saints Neighborhood Family Heritage Program, 2445 Darwin Rd., Suite 109, Madison, WI 53704.  We would like to thank the dedicated healthcare professionals at the UW-Madison Carbone Cancer Center, particularly Dr. Robert Hegeman and Karen Huseby-Moore, NP, for their expertise and years of compassionate care as Lois overcame cancer, as well as convey our gratitude to the Home Health United Hospice team.  Lois will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
