(Merck) Meinke. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Victor. She attended St. John's Parochial School, near Victor. On September 3, 1939, she married Erwin (Harry) Wardenburg at St. John Lutheran Church, near Victor. When they met Leona was working at the Witte Department Store and Harry at York Creamery. October 1941 they moved to Worthington, IA, where Harry was the butter maker. All three children were born while they lived there. They moved back to Williamsburg in 1947. Together they owned and operated Williamsburg Creamery & Dairy, retiring in 1974. She then worked in the Colony Haus Gift Shop for a number of years. unting with her friends Grace and Helen. She also bowled many years on the "Gahring Dozers" team and she also enjoyed quilting, playing cards, making beads golfing and being with her family. She became a resident of Colonial Manor in 2008. Leona died on Monday, April 16, 2012 at Colonial Manor in Amana at the age of 94 years. She is survived by her three children: Richard (Judy) Wardenburg of Parnell, Karen (Gerald) Schwarting of Amana and Marleen (Ron) Schmidt of Orlando, FL; 6 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a brother-in-law Arthur Johnson of Martelle, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; 2 sisters: Loretta Johnson and one as an infant; and a brother-in-law: Victor Wardenburg. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Williamsburg. Rev. Carl Cloeter will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Williamsburg. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Williamsburg. A memorial fund has been established for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Lutheran Interparish School or Essence of Life Hospice.
