Maurine Hangman, 90, formerly of Newcastle, Nebraska passed away Saturday, April 10, 2010 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska with Chad Beckius officiating. Burial will be at Lime Creek Cemetery in rural Maskell, Nebraska. Visitation will begin at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, April 16, 2010 at the Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca, Nebraska, with the family present at 6:00 P.M. and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. Maurine Blanche Nelson was born August 31, 1919 on the Nelson family homestead near Maskell, Nebraska, the daughter of Melvin and Rose "Birkley" Nelson. She attended Grand Ridge School and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1936. She attended Wayne State College and taught at several country schools. On June 14, 1941 she married Norman Hangman at Zion Lutheran Church in Maskell, Nebraska. They farmed for several years in the Newcastle area and owned Norman's Grocery in Maskell for a few years. nca. Norman passed away on July 17, 2001. Her last years were spent at Hillcrest Assisted Living in Laurel, Nebraska to be near family. She was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church and WELCA in Maskell. Maurine is survived by a daughter, Rozanne (Jack) Hintz of Dixon, Nebraska; a son, Norman Alan (Beverly) Hangman of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Suzy (Brad) Gonzales, Alex, Megan and Lauren of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Brenda (Mike) Surber, Scot, Tyler and Cortny of Concord, Nebraska, Amy (Kevin) Boehning of Mililani, Hawaii, Stephanie Elkin & Jacob of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Wayne (Kelly) Hangman, Maka, Rose and Skye of Hilo, Hawaii, SPC John (Katrina) Hintz and John Marcus of Hinesville, Georgia; one brother, Carleton Nelson of Coleridge, Nebraska; 5 sisters-in-law, Agnes Hangman of Napa, California, Pearl Peterson and Dorothy Arends of Ponca, Nebraska, Wanda (Vernon) Johnson of Waldron, Arkansas, Gloria Pfister of Gray Court, South Carolina; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and 2 brothers, Raymond and LeRoy Nelson.
