Charles Davis, 97, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. He was born Wednesday, May 26, 1920, in Oskaloosa, the son of Richard and Margaret Davis. He graduated from the New Sharon High School with the Class of 1937. Charles joined the U.S. Army and served in the 226 FA BN 24th Corp. from 1941 - 1945. On September 13, 1951, Charles was united in marriage to Doris Johnson in Oskaloosa and Doris died July 16, 2017. Charles worked at John Morrel Meats in Ottumwa for 22 years until it closed. He then went to work for Mahaska Industries in Oskaloosa until that company closed. For the next many years Charles looked for work various places. He did whatever he had to do to support his family, even selling some of his prized possessions to keep food on the table. he winters. His favorite thing in life was spending time with his family and sitting on the front porch with Doris drinking coffee and watching the traffic on the highway. He always said he could see more on that highway than he could on TV.

He is survived by his two sons: Rickie (& Kael) Davis of Jamestown, Colorado and Kelly (& Erin) Davis of Des Moines; three daughters: Deborah (& Dennis) Beal and Jo Davis both of Oskaloosa and Jane (& Jeff) Graham of Harvey; five grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Billie Marie Davis of Pleasantville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son: Charles Wesley Davis; a grandson: Adam Davis; and two brothers: Don (& Avis) Davis and Keith Davis.

As was his wish, Charles' body has been cremated and no services are planned. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
