Herbert Harvey Kalman - Rochester Herb Kalman, 97, of Rochester, formerly of Boca Raton, Florida, died peacefuly at his home in Shorewood Commons Saturday, May 10, 2014. He was born September 23, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was raised and attended school. He met the love of his life, Marna Lee Goldson, whom he married in Chicago on April 29, 1939. Despite family concerns that the marriagewould not last, they recently celebrated their 75th anniversary. Herb enlisted in the Army Air Corps immediately after the bombing of PearlHarbor. He was trained to be a bomber on the B-24 Liberator. After the service, he resumed his career in merchandising and retail, specializing in womens ready-to-wear. His career moved his family frequently, living in Houston and Amarillo, Texas; Denver, Colorado; Chicago, Illinois; Tulsa, Oklahoma; Los Angeles, California; and Bethesda, Maryland. Herb and Marna retired to Boca Raton, Florida in 1983 and lived there until moving to Rochester in 2009. MN Twins fan (and closet manager). Herb was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister, and cherishedgrandson and daughter-in-law. Survivors include his wife, Marna; two sons, Ron (Susan Hatter) of Vienna, VA. and Jerry (Lydia Rossi) of Fallbrook, CA; one daughter, Dr. Beth (Dr. Barry) Karon of Rochester, MN; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held Tuesday, May 13, 10 a.m. at Bnai Israel Synagogue in Rochester followed by interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Shiva (Memorial) services will be held Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 6:00 in the ShorewoodCommons Activity Room, and Friday night at 7:30 at Bnai Israel Synagogue.
