Marie M. Smorey
Marie Marilyn "Guppy" Smorey of the Providence House in Reading went home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2017 at Penn State St. Joseph's Medical Center. Born in Reading in 1930, she was 86 years young and the daughter of the late Robert D. and Ethel S. (Moyer) Styer. She was the widow of Raymond G. Smorey Jr. who died April 21, 2005. They shared a loving marriage of sixty years. Marie is survived by three children; Daniel R. Sr. husband of Rosemary Smorey of Reading, Deborah E. widow of Robert Gaston of Fleetwood, and Kip A. husband of Kelly Smorey of Reading. Ten grandchildren; Dan Smorey, Jr., Lisa MacMillan, Robert Gaston, Jr., Christopher Gaston, Bridget Moffet, Brandon Hanson, Tara Conard, Andrew Smorey, Brandi Smorey, and Caleb Smorey. Twenty-five great grandchildren. A "little sister", Marlene S. (Aunt Lolly) widow of Robert Hyland of Robesonia Loving nurturing, and strong her family meant everything to her. gifts. A graduate of the former Shillington High School, Marie wore many hats. Dancing by the age of four and continuing thru her teens eventually opening several dance studios in the area. Motherhood moved to an import/export business in Jacksonwald. Later a sandwich shop at twelfth and Cotton Streets, called Guppies a nickname from her late husband. Having too much on her plate she trained to teach special needs children and loved doing that for years. From there she trained and became the first women paralegal in Berks County working at the Central Pennsylvania Legal Services as a domestic relations specialist until finally retiring to another home business called Grannie Goose Boutique selling homemade crafts. Finally relaxing to be Mom and Grand mom every day, sewing, FOX News politics, reading Mike Evans and Bill O'Reilly, and looking forward to being with "Bud" again.
