MADISON- Robert H. "Doc" Moore, age 94, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2017. He was born on March 25, 1923, in Madison, the son of Harold and Evelyn (Larson) Moore. Doc attended high school at Madison East, in the graduating class of 1940. He was united in marriage to Shirley (Pauze) Noles-Moore on Oct. 25, 2014. Doc went on to join the ROTC at UW-Madison where he received a junior graduate degree in liberal studies in 1942. He continued his education at Marquette University and graduated as a Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1945. With determination and passion to help others, Doc joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He was sent to boot camp with the Marines at Oceanside, CA. A natural leader, he rightly achieved the role as 2nd Lieutenant. Doc later transferred to the USS Warhawk with the First Marine Division. When the war ended, he returned to Seattle for decommissioning. He was then transferred to Ft. McClellan, Ala. to the Army. Before reporting to Ft. ander in the U.S. Navy. Doc found great pride in his dental practice. He was a dental consultant for WPS and was pivotal in the push to add fluoride to the water in Madison. Doc happily practiced in Madison for 40 years. He was an active supporter of many organizations. Doc was a Member of American Legion Post 481, life member of VFW 8483 and WWII National Museum, as well as the USO, Reserve Strength Organization, National Wildlife Federation and National World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. He was also a life member of Reserve Officers Association, life member of Disabled American Veterans Association, a member of Retired Officers Association, Member of Fleet Reserve Association, Northeast Optimists, Eastside Businessmen's Association, National Geographic, and a member of the NRA. Doc also held the position as Secretary and Treasurer of Dane County Dental Society. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and relished in the time spent gardening. Doc acquired a great love for archeology, and history. Doc  is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Noles-Moore; sons, Robert "Bob" (Denise) Moore, David Moore, and Bradley (Sharon) Moore; daughter, Pamela Pomranke; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three step-daughters, Mary Noles, Teresa (Lance) Noles-Puccio, and Kiersten (Danny) Moniz; and step-son, Scott (Kelly) Noles. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 60 years, Patricia Moore; sister, Bonnie Moore; granddaughter, Mackencie Moore; and great-grandson, Brayden Turnbill. Funeral services will be held at BRISTOL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6835 County Hwy N, Sun Prairie, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017, with Pastor Jen Johnson presiding. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST, FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr., Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8, 2017, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
