Mary was born Mary Louise Pitts, November 18, 1929 in Johnson City, Tennessee. Her parents were Perie and Ruth Pitts. She has two older brothers Don and Perie Junior. They moved to Indianapolis, Indiana when Mary was about three years old. She grew up there and attended Howe High School. After that she went to Hanover College and was chosen Homecoming Queen in 1948. There she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree and graduated in 1951.

She married Clarence George Zike on September 7, 1952. They had four children. Cheryl, David, Susan, and Laura. Clarence and Mary became Jehovah's Witnesses and were baptized in 1960/1961. They volunteered many hours in their local congregation teaching their family and many others about the Bible. As they grew up, each of their children joined them in becoming Jehovah's Witnesses.Mary and Clarence had a very happy marriage, but sadly Clarence passed away on May 9, 1978.

d a happy marriage and devoted much time as Jehovah's Witnesses, volunteering in their Bible education work. David has a daughter Charise, from his first marriage. Sadly too, David passed away July 21, 2016.

Mary and her family including her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren all continue to share her love for the Bible and sharing it with others.
