Carl E. Dixon, 85, was called home to the Lord early Saturday morning, September 2, 2017 at Good Samaritan Nursing Center, Davenport. Services in celebration of his life will be 10:30 am Friday September 8th with family greeting friends from 9:30 until time of service at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly and Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Burial will be in Clarence Cemetery, Clarence, Iowa. Carl was born in 1932 in Shamrock, Texas, the son of Jessie Nelson and Eva (Prestige) Dixon. Upon Jessie's death, Eva married Robert Atkins, who raised Carl and his sister early on like a father. Carl enlisted in the United States Air Force serving for 4 years and then serving in the Air Force Reserves. While in the Air Force Carl trained as a mechanic on airplanes and heavy equipment. Carl married Carolyn Snell and they later divorced. He then married Virginia Luikart in 1977 in Davenport, Iowa. Carl worked as an airplane mechanic, and various other jobs as a mechanic of heavy equipment. Carl eventually retired from the City of Davenport as a mechanic. Carl had an active life, enjoying hiking, , traveling in their RV, dune buggies, woodworking, photography, airplanes, dogs (especially Collies), target shooting, fishing and fly tying, old cars and spending time with his family and friends. It was Carl's love of aircraft that prompted him to work on achieving his goal of getting his pilot's license, prior to his illness. Carl leaves behind his wife, daughter Tammie Lynn Dixon, granddaughter Katie Dixon, great granddaughter Emma, sister Vera Forest, and many nieces and nephews. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Robert Atkins, 2 sons Val Everett and Corey Dixon, granddaughter Gwin, and nieces Marsha Forrest and Terrie Parrish.
