James "Jim" Harley Hall, 81, of Burlington, died 8:50 a.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington. Born on December 4, 1935 in Albert Lea, MN, he was the son of Harley and Margaret (McCarty) Hall. He married Ione Roberts on May 28, 1965 in Quincy, IL. Jim served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked in auto body paint and repair for L & M Motors before joining the military. After the war, he returned to L & M Motors and later Service Motors. Jim was instrumental in developing the auto body program at SCC where he taught for 30 years until his retirement in 1997. He was an avid collector of many items, beginning with his license plate collection. He loved spending time with his family. He never met a stranger. He loved his students and enjoyed going to work. Survivors include his wife, Ione Hall of Burlington; five children; Brad (Kim) Hall and Debbie Hall of Burlington; Annette Cooper of Carroll, IA, Rod (Karen) Hall of Loveland, CO and Jackie (Kendall) Worley of Burlington; special friends, Rex Widmer and Brian and Stacy Wiseman all of Burlington; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; one brother, Ronald Ha...[more]

of Cookville, TN and brothers in law, Ernie Colombe of Omaha, NE and Lyle (Betty) Roberts of Burlington; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marlene Colombe and sister in law, Mary Ann Hall. The funeral service for Mr. Hall will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 19th at Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Dean Graber will officiate. Interment will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. The Hamilton-Walters Marine Corps League and the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will conduct military rites. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Lunning Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the SCC Foundation, Great River Hospice or the Wounded Warrior Project.
