Alonzo (Lon/Lonnie) Franklin Lappin, 91, Muncie, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle, went home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center. He was born in Danville, Illinois, on December 14, 1925, and moved to Muncie as a boy. Lon resided most of his life on Muncie's south side until moving to Elmcroft Assisted Living Center in 2013. He was a graduate of Muncie Central High School and served honorably in the U.S. Army 3rd Division under General George Patton during W.W. II. Lon married the love of his life, Phyllis Ann (White), on August 24, 1947, in Walnut Street Baptist Church (later renamed Shawnee Heights Baptist Church). They remained active members of the church where he served as a deacon until their move to Elmcroft. Lon enjoyed large family gatherings, watching and playing baseball, bowling, golf, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, and working on projects in his garage workshop. He especially loved watching Westerns on TV, and his favorite actor was John Wayne. n); and daughter, Julie (husband Mark) Eckelman, who all reside in the Muncie area. He also had five grandchildren; Ivan Antonio (wife Isabella) Saval, New York City; Angela Saval, Muncie; Matthew (wife Charlotte) Lappin, Selma; Marlie (husband Chris) Arnold, Atlanta, Georgia; Melissa (husband Matt) Pevic, Redondo Beach, California; and special nephews, John, David, and Darrin Lee whose deceased father, Phillip (wife Jayne) Lee, was like his second son. Lon was great grandpa to Nathaniel and Gabriel Lappin, Valentina Saval, and Lucas Arnold. The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to all who worked at Elmcroft Assisted Living Center for their loving care and concern extended to Lon over the past four years, including Doctor Robert Suer. Also, a special thank you to those in the Intensive Care Unit and Coronary Progressive Care Units at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital and, most recently, to those providing Hospice Care for him through Kindred. Services will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Elm Ridge Funeral Home, 4600 W. Kilgore Avenue, Muncie, IN 47304 with Pastor Ron Elam officiating. Burial will follow in Elm Ridge Memorial Park with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County Honor Guard. Family and friends may call at Elm Ridge Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., Saturday.
