Brett Alan Benson was born January 17th, 1958 in Algona, son of Charles L. and Marilyn (Batt) Benson. He grew up in Algona graduating from Algona High School in 1976. He then attended Iowa State University in Ames. Brett worked for Benson Welding before moving to San Antonio, TX where he worked for International Paper Company. On May 7, 1988 he was united in marriage to Cheryl Knoer in San Marcos, Texas. In 1993, they moved to Crystal, MN where he began working for Infinity Intermodal as a heavy equipment operator on the BNSF Railroad. He worked there until his illness in 2007. Brett enjoyed spending time with his family and friends especially the time he spent with his nieces and nephews, and his friends and neighbor's kids. He was an avid reader and enjoyed playing in pool league for the past 17 years. Brett loved fishing with his family and friends especially with his brothers on their annual trip to South Dakota. Brett A. Benson died Friday, January 7, 2011 at his residence in Crystal, MN at the age of 52. He was preceded in death by his father Charles on November 7, 2006; his sister, Debra Gaedke on April 29, 1998; his grandparents, John and Helen Simpson, Theresia and Bill Maier; his aunt Marge Petersen; and a special friend Rachel Simon.
