Louise Steenhoek

Louise Steenhoek, age 81 of Bondurant, formerly of Prairie City, passed away at 6:00 AM, Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines with her daughters by her side. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 20 at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Burial will be in Waveland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 7:00 PM with family present from 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Wednesday, January 19 at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Mabel Louise Roberts was born on October 28, 1929 in Prairie City, the daughter of Ralph H. and Mabel B. Riley Roberts. She was educated and graduated from high school in Prairie City. On February 16, 1949 she married Darrell Albert Steenhoek at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on July 12, 2000. Survivors include five daughters, Nancy Herselius and husband Bob of Bondurant, Marcia DeVries and husband Keith of Monroe, Diana Seibert of Manhattan, Kansas, Karen Steenhoek of Oakland, Illinois, and Roberta Wademan and husband Dave of Blue Hill, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers Raymond Roberts and Harold Roberts, two brothers-in-law Bert Taylor and Hubert Burns, two sisters-in-law Jeanetta Plate and Betty Roberts, and one great-grandson Prince Daniel DeVries. Louise was a devoted farm wife and mother. She had been employed for many years at Roberts Bros True Value Hardware in Prairie City, and Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, counted cross stitching, knitting, baking, cooking, and visiting. She especially loved visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and she will be greatly missed. A memorial fund is being established for either the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church, or Courtyard Estates in Bondurant.
